Keith Frank literally has Zydeco flowing in his blood. Born and raised in Soileau, LA, and hailing from a family of Creole musicians that can trace its lineage back to the 1860s, there was little doubt as to what he would ultimately do. However, his path encountered a few twists and turns on the road. Although he performed in his father’s Swallow Family Band as young as 3 years old, he performed in a variety of local bands through his teenage years. Upon entering college, he reformed the family band with his sister Jennifer and brother Brad, rechristened it the Soileau Zydeco Band and set their minds on making their mark in an era of Zydeco ruled by Beau Jocque, Zydeco Force, and BooZoo Chavis. What has followed has been more than 2 decades of groundbreaking music, sold-out shows, and a sound that has changed the face of Zydeco, and reignited the love of Zydeco among a young generation of Zydeco enthusiasts, and helped raise the profile of the music nationwide.
A career has followed which has propelled him to the top of the Zydeco hierarchy, and cast him as a leading spokesman for the Creole community in Southwest Louisiana. He’s been a prominent voice in the establishment of the Creole Renaissance Festival, a yearly festival held in Opelousas, which features authentic Zydeco music, and a celebration of the Creole Way of life.
Keith Frank has blazed a trail in Zydeco that is being emulated and will be remembered well after he is gone. His dominant position in the Zydeco community and the impact of his every move has earned him a distinct title. In South Louisiana, Keith Frank is… The Zydeco Boss!!
